CHAMBER ENSEMBLES

In addition to daily private lessons and other more individualized activities, the academy participants will form a strong sense of community through a program specifically designed for interaction, exchange of ideas, and community participation.

By its nature, ensemble playing is a communal activity. To further foster the sense of community, each attendee will be placed into a suitable chamber group or small ensemble for the duration of the Academy. These ensembles will rehearse, receive coaching from the faculty, have opportunity to perform, and even record their achievements in a professional recording studio!

STUDIO CLASSES

Daily studio classes reinforce the learning that takes place in private lessons but also allow students to grow through the challenges and successes of the entire studio class.

MUSICIANSHIP TRAINING

Beyond ensemble, however, the Seven-Pillars Academy offers a specially designed program of musicianship training that includes sharpening aural skills, including chord recognition, sight-reading, and rhythmic problems.

In small groups of 6, students will also explore various musical concepts through guided listening, simple score study, and in-class discussion.  Thorough preparation of a variety of musical skills not only makes a performer’s musical experience richer and potentially more enjoyable, it is also a necessity for an advanced musician.

With many musical skills and experiences obtained outside the private lesson, the pace of instrumental instruction is quicker and more effective.
