Sylvie Tran

Subject: Music Theory

Sylvie Tran is currently working towards a PhD in music theory at the University of Michigan. Originally from New Mexico, Sylvie holds a B.M. in flute performance from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Her music theoretical work is broadly centered around performance and analysis. Sylvie explores questions of arrangement, transcription, and embodiment, particularly in chamber music for wind instruments and early 18th-century works.

Jacob Taitel

Subject: Trombone

Jacob Taitel is an active orchestral, solo, and chamber musician as well as teaching artist based in Ann Arbor, MI. As an orchestral musician, Jacob has performed with numerous ensembles across the Midwest, including the Erie Philharmonic Orchestra and the Akron Symphony Orchestra. He has given masterclasses and recitals at various universities as well. Jacob serves as the tuba instructor for the Civic Youth Ensembles of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as well as the tuba and euphonium instructor for the Dexter Community Schools. In pursuit of progressing classical music forward, Jacob has premiered a number of solos, chamber works, and large ensemble pieces. Jacob currently hold a BM in Tuba Performance with a minor in Arts Management from Illinois Wesleyan University and will graduate in May 2020 with an MM in Tuba Performance and an MM in Chamber Music from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
